I can’t believe I let this sit in my Kindle library for so long without reading it. This isn’t the darkest romance out there, but let’s be clear—the lights are definitely out. If you have triggers, chances are you’ll run into at least one along the way, so proceed with care.

This is the dirty, gritty kind of enemies-to-lovers that makes me feral. In his mission to get Nell to quit the squad, Bradshaw does some truly awful things—but Nell is a certified badass who absolutely refuses to roll over and take anyone’s nonsense.

When she joins the squad and the guys start giving her a hard time? Nah, sirs, that won’t fly.

“She’ll be crying like a fucking baby when we’re done with her.”

“Bunnies will consume their own under stress.”

The guys:

Nell really said, “Oh, you want to play? Let’s play.”

There were a lot of twists and turns here, all of them—at least in my opinion—really well executed. The pacing never felt off, and while I started to suspect the general direction once Nell and Bones were captured, there were still plenty of moments that caught me off guard.

If you’ve read this author before, you know not to expect sunshine and roses. The bad things happen. Loss is woven right alongside love—but that’s part of what makes these stories so hauntingly beautiful. (And yes, thank you K.M. for Eren. If you know, you know. 🙏)

Nell and Bradshaw’s relationship is unconventional and raw, shaped by a long, complicated, and deeply interconnected history. As much as they try to resist it, their darknesses recognize each other—and that pull is impossible to ignore.

If you’re looking for true enemies-to-lovers with military vibes, morally complicated characters, and two deeply broken people finding something real in the mess, do yourself a favor and pick this up.

Just… check the trigger warnings first.
