But first, the necessary PSA: this book is not for you ifโ€ฆ

  • Secondhand embarrassment makes you physically combust
  • Rambling triggers your fight-or-flight
  • You cannot suspend disbelief and embrace chaos
  • Cringe humor is your nemesis
  • Awkward characters give you the ick
    ย

However, if youโ€”like meโ€”live for the cringe, embrace awkward gremlins as your people, consider banter a love language, and cannot resist enemies-to-lovers shenanigansโ€ฆ buckle up, buttercup. This book was made in a lab specifically for us.

This was my first Meghan Quinn book and I am now officially feral for her romcoms. I was maybe 10% in when I texted my friend saying, โ€œThis is the most perfectly ridiculous thing Iโ€™ve ever read.โ€ And I meant it with my whole chest.

๐ŸŽง About the audiobook

Listen, I adore Samantha Brentmoor and Teddy Hamilton in general, but adding Shane East as the omniscient narrator? Sir. SIR.

The full cast makes the absurdity hit at Olympic levels. This is genuinely one of those rare cases where audio elevates the entire experience.

๐Ÿ’™ Characters I Will Protect With My Life

Atlas โ€” my beloved dramatic, awkward, emotionally constipated chaos muppet.

Was he childish? Yes.

Did he have the range to single-handedly perform an entire middle school play? Also yes.

Was he memorable and wonderful because of it? Absolutely.

Betty โ€” equally rambly, equally awkward, and the perfect match for Atlasโ€™ high-octane nonsense. Their scene with Storee and Cole?

โ€œAre they the same person?โ€

โ€œYes.โ€

They were 100% correct in their observation.ย

๐ŸŽจ The Crayon Drawing (AKA: Sir, Why???)

The second that thing appeared on the (metaphorical) page, I knew it would come back to haunt him. AND YET HE KEPT IT. IN HIS GLOVE BOX. WHY.

๐Ÿฅฒ The Dwight of It All

A few notes:

A) The moment I saw the name Dwight, my brain auto-loaded Rainn Wilson. Confusing, 10/10 not the right voice.

B) This man held a grudge for years without a single conversation. And two of his reasons? Absolutely unhinged.

The moral here? Communicate. Or risk getting dragged around by your shirt collar by the town mayor like a child being marched to timeout.

๐Ÿฟ Final Popcorn Warning

If you adore popcorn garland and donโ€™t want it forever associated with that sceneโ€ฆ proceed with caution. Like, โ€œhazmat suitโ€ caution. ๐Ÿ˜…

If loving this much cringe, chaos, and cinnamon-roll energy is wrong, I donโ€™t want to be right. Happy holidays to me, I guess.
