This shit was ADDICTIVE. Normally, I juggle one physical book and one Kindle book, saving the ebook for late-night reads in bed. Then Shona dropped this duet and said: Forget your physical book and your sleep schedule, too.

Iโ€™m in my late 30s, maโ€™amโ€”I canโ€™t be staying up past midnight like itโ€™s no big deal. Itโ€™s unnatural.

Zeeโ€™s story had me hooked from page one. Even before the guys show up, sheโ€™s funny, engaging, and completely likeable. Trash-talking Kevin the palm tree and Bob (that little menaceโ€”IYKYK), hanging with Mo-Mo the lemur, and treating Steve the rock as her BFF? I lived for all of it.

Of course, the themes here are heavy. But Shona strikes such a smart balanceโ€”pairing Zeeโ€™s tough backstory with sharp humor, quirky island friends, Bowersโ€™ commentary, and the swoony, chaotic energy of Zee and her guys.

And yes, I know there are reviews out there harping that this unrealistic. Could someone really survive 15 years alone on an island? Would multiple people live through plane crashes? Would Zee really fall for these guys so quickly? Would they be all in that fast? To which I say: no shit. Thatโ€™s the point. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride.

I did not see Zee and Reeceโ€™s shared history coming, though I clocked from the start that his dad was the real villain of the piece. Fucker.

Like always, I leaned toward book oneโ€”itโ€™s got that electric โ€œfalling in loveโ€ high. But book two still delivered in spades, even without the same brand-new relationship buzz.

Highlights:

  • I would 100% be best friends with Mo-Mo.
  • Thanks, Shona, for making me desperately want a pet lemur.
  • The guys dressing up in lemur onesies? Everything.

Final thought: while I swooned hard over the romance, can we talk about how realistic is it that Reece stayed celibate this whole time? ๐Ÿ‘€
