The second installment of the Shattered Silence duet was good… but not great. It didn’t quite hit the same notes book one did.

The story picks up right where book one left off, with Mina having a rough afternoon (to put it lightly) and the guys swooping in to rescue her. (Not a spoiler—let’s be real, there wouldn’t be a book otherwise.)

Now that Mina’s out of that hellish environment and living with the guys, she starts talking again and slowly growing into herself. This book focuses on protecting Mina and uncovering the killer.

But then Mina finds out the guys were initially investigating her as part of the case. And somehow not a single one of them thought this might be… an issue? Men. 😒

I also felt like the actual plot took a backseat to the spice in book two. Mina still manages to land herself in trouble twice more, which had me muttering: “How many psychopaths can one girl know!?” Seriously, lady luck shat on Mina the day she was born.

And speaking of villains—when Mina ends up with Helen and Simon, we get the dreaded evil monologue. Sorry, but every time that happens I feel like I’m watching a Scooby Doo episode.

📝 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝟭:

  • Brad = little psychopath, but not the killer.
    Problem solved (literally).
  • Simon? Oh, he’s 100% the killer.
Yes… but also no? How many psychos does one girl know?
  • The twins will be her first intimacy.
Ugh, fine, I called it wrong. Should’ve known it’d be Dom.
  • And please, for the love of all things holy, let her mom rot in the deepest pit of hell.

Overall, if you read and enjoyed book one, this is worth finishing for closure. Just know going in: less mystery, more spice, and a few too many villains giving Saturday-morning-cartoon speeches.
