All hail Susie Tate—queen of the groveling MMC, mistress of second chances, and empress of pulling at heartstrings.
Not a single book by Susie has left me disappointed. Her stories are rich, her characters complex and relatable, and her neurodivergent representation is spot on (that alone deserves a gold star in my book).
Mike and Vicky? Swoon🥹
After the last two books, I knew groveling was on the menu, and I was so here for it.
(What does it say about me that one of my favorite tropes is men who have to grovel? Maybe I should make a note for my next therapy session…)
Mike, this grumpy, rough-around-the-edges guy who went from making awful assumptions and treating Vicky terribly, to being her ultimate protector. My heart couldn’t take it! I loved how furious he was every time he realized just how deep Vicky’s emotional scars went. And don’t even get me started on the wedding and how he handled her family—feral doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Speaking of her family…
- Janet, go choke on a scone.
- Rebecca, you’re a bitch, but I’ll cut you the slightest bit of slack for apologizing.
- Darrell, you are the scum of the earth, and I hope you wake up every morning with itchy armpits.
- Gareth, it took you long enough, but you’re the only decent one in that mess, so I’ll allow it.
And can someone please come get Margot? She means well, but did she learn nothing from the last book? 😅
Vicky was an absolute gem. The fact that she was conditioned to believe she was unworthy of love or affection? Heartbreaking. There’s not a level deep enough in hell for her mother to vacation in for eternity. I loved reading her POV and watching her navigate her world. As someone who tends to internalize emotions and thoughts, I really related to her character on that level.
Honestly, I can’t pick a favorite from this series—they each evoke such different feelings. But one thing’s for sure: these characters will stick with you long after you turn the last page.
So, do yourself a favor—power walk and buy, or download, this book now. You won’t regret it.
