Apparently, I’m on a very specific book streak: betrayed men out for vengeance on the loves of their lives (which, as we all know, never really goes according to plan).
And honestly? I’m loving this for me.
S.L. Prater delivered with This Haunted Heart. I was hooked on Loch and Rynn from the very first page. These two chaotic, broken, and gloriously poor-decision-prone characters stole my heart.
Loch is the ultimate sad boi, hunting down the love of his life for some much-deserved vengeance. She ghosted him when they were 18 (literally—he thought she was dead for 20 years). Naturally, he’s been grieving all this time, so the bitterness? Totally fair. (And here I thought I had trouble letting things go👀)
Rynn, on the other hand, is a newly retired courtesan hauling around enough emotional baggage to fill a haunted mansion (conveniently, Loch has one of those). She’s been avoiding her past… until Loch shows up with his sad eyes, steals her life savings, and—oh, right—kidnaps her.
Their banter? Absolute gold. It’s a delightful game of one-upmanship:
☑️He messes with her library.
✅She steals his knife and shreds his clothes.
☑️He tears all her clothes while they’re traveling.
✅She clocks him with a rolled-up newspaper.
☑️He steals her boots.
✅She plants a venomous snake in his pocket.
And on it goes 😅
But this story isn’t just banter and antics—it’s a moving exploration of grief, forgiveness, and the messy gray areas of love and betrayal. S.L. Prater masterfully shows that the line between who’s wrong and who’s right isn’t always clear.
If you’re into witty banter, in your face spice, and romances that make the characters (and you) a little unhinged, don’t miss This Haunted Heart.
It’s out January 27th, and yes, it’ll be on Kindle Unlimited. 😉
