***NOTE: Review may contain some spoilers, don’t say I didn’t warn you.***

Honestly, at times, it felt like I was on a bit of a roller coaster. While fast pacing can work in a novel with this many twists and turns, in this case, the pacing worked against the plot. In her effort to keep the story going, I feel certain timelines and details weren’t given the attention they should’ve had.

End of Book 2: Emilia discovers Vittoria is alive ➡ Book 3: We pick up right after she learns the truth about Vittoria ➡ Next thing we know, Vittoria and Domenico pull her to the shadowlands for a chat ➡ Wrath retrieves her, and suddenly, we learn there was a murder at House Greed ➡ The Princes are all talking about Vittoria as if she’s been around the entire time… Wut?

The Plot

Again, I think there were certain plot holes in the timeline that occasionally made things a bit confusing. Outside of that, the story itself was action-packed from beginning to end. One thing that I’m still unsure about is the curse on Wrath. According to the story, he’s taking a tonic so he won’t feel his love for Emilia and risk her being taken away. However, every one of his actions makes it abundantly clear that he loves her.

I’m sorry, the math ain’t mathing. If he truly was blocking himself from feeling his emotions, then his interactions with her should have been considerably different (in my opinion).

On another note, Emilia and Wrath were on fire in this one 🔥 (no pun intended). Dear goddess, the spice 🥵. I need someone to explain how the publisher read this and confidently decided, “Yep, definitely young adult.” Sir and/or Madam! We get a vivid description of a gondola 🍆 job. Call me a prude, but I don’t feel that’s 12-year-old-appropriate content 💀.

Characters

🖤Emilia🖤

“And then, dear sister, you’ll meet the witch you forced me to become.”

  • Leveled-up Emilia is a BAMF.
  • I understand her struggle of wanting to defend her twin and give her the benefit of the doubt, but… sincerely, I think I would’ve punched Vittoria straight in the 😺.
  • “Apologies, my temper got the best of me.” This scene at House Greed? #ChefsKiss 🤌🏻.

🖤Wrath🖤

“I always knew you. And always will. Your soul calls to mine. It’s a feeling of coming home. Of peace. No magic can duplicate it.”

  • Where do I sign up for one of these 👀?
  • When the vampires visit House Wrath? “That was his betrothed” “Then he should have taken more care to protect her from his enemies.”  The screams I scrumpt.

🖤Envy🖤

“Looks like my brother’s spies have been slacking. You really shouldn’t have flung that match. Now you’ll feel her burn.”

  • Is Envy my second favorite Prince of Hell? 🤔
  • Envy and Emilia’s begrudging friendship is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and it fills me with joy.
  • We get plenty of hints that Envy has far more depth than we see here, and I’m definitely curious to know his story.

🖤Fauna and Anir🖤

  • 🙋🏻‍♀️ Ahem… Can I, too, be invited to tea and learn everything that happened at the coronation ball? 👀
  • I feel as if there should have been a bit more development for Fauna and Anir. We knew enough to wonder about a side plot, but it was never fully developed. I believe both characters had a lot of potential.

🖤Gluttony and Sloth🖤

  • I don’t know what it is about these two, but I need more of them both. Please and thank you.

🖤Greed🖤

  • Ahem… respectfully, go suck a 🍆.
