First things first… Kerri, how dare you????
That cliffhanger should be illegal. If it weren’t for the fact that I have the next book ready and waiting in my TBR pile, I would have been MUY upset.
Now that we got that out of the way: when I tell you I INHALED this book like it was my last breath; if I’d been in need of O2, this book was my oxygen mask.
The story picks up right where we left off, with Emilia’s arrival in the Seven Circles, Wrath as her personal escort. Even though the story remains single POV, we learn more is going on than Emilia anticipated, and Wrath’s lack of POV becomes a tool to keep the mystery alive. I felt like we got much more out of Wrath this time around, and selfishly, I wanted nothing more than to dig into his head 👀.
I felt for Emilia, especially during her initial arrival at House Wrath. Existing in a constant state of suspicion and defensiveness, with an ever-present pessimism, I was exhausted FOR her. As the reader, it’s frustrating because WE know there is more to Wrath than meets the eye, but her experiences and lack of confidence keep her from seeing another perspective (though Wrath certainly doesn’t help matters sometimes 🙄).
The plot gets a 4.5; yes, I did see certain things coming (and suspected them since the last book), but I did NOT see that reveal about Victoria coming. I don’t blame Emilia if she’s officially reached her last straw and has zero fucks to give in the next book. My toxic trait is that I cannot wait for all the drama that’s to come.
I thoroughly enjoyed Kerry’s depiction of Hell and the Princes.
Wrath has not one but two libraries? When do I move in?
I’m hoping the next book starts right from where we left off. Otherwise, I’ll be getting my torch and pitchfork 😤.
In related news, the paperback for this is $6.99 on Amazon right now!👀
