This had been sitting in my TBR for [a ridiculously long undisclosed amount of time], and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
While the worldbuilding didn’t blow my mind, the plot, writing, and main characters more than made up for it. Sure, the characters weren’t as three-dimensional as I would’ve liked, but that’s probably the single POV’s fault. I always struggle to connect when I can’t get inside both the MMC/FMC’s heads. Wrath is great, but he left me wanting more.
And yes, besides the mandatory sexual tension and one steamy kiss, there’s not a ton of heat in this book. But considering the cliffhanger ending and the promise of more Wrath and Emilia, I’ll allow it. (Praying to all the bookish gods for some Wrath smut soon 🥵😅).
“All witches are born evil.”
“You’re wrong. We’re not born evil. Some of us become that way. Through hate.”
The storyline is solid – what’s not to love?
Princes of Hell? ✅
Witchy MFC? ✅
They hate but want each other? ✅
Saving them from certain death? ✅
A no-nonsense Italian grandma who’s also a badass witch? ✅
Subterfuge and betrayal? ✅
If you want evil, I’ll show you evil? ✅
Spilling his guts… literally? ✅
My only complaint is that I guessed the murderer right off the bat, but it didn’t ruin my fun.
The author’s writing is engaging, and I never felt “outside” the story. The pacing was on point, with just a few scenes that could’ve been trimmed to keep things moving.
As always, random thoughts and reactions:
- Not Emilia accidentally getting herself betrothed 🤦🏻♀️
- Wow, Lust is a real prick.
- Wrath is a sweetie but doesn’t want us to know it.
- Wrath and eclairs 💙
- I take it back, Envy is THE NUMBER ONE prick 😤.
Now, excuse me while I grab the next book off my TBR pile because, of course, I bought the whole series without reading the first book. 😎
P.S. While you won’t find any heart-wrenching or sigh-inducing romance quotes in this book, Kerri still brought her A-game. Pretty sure I found my next bookish tattoos.
