The wait is over! Or, should I say, the war is over—and Thysandra is left wondering which way is up, who’s actually right, who’s just very wrong, and how on earth she ended up as High Lady of the Crimson Court.
She does know two things for certain:
- She’s a traitor, and if anyone finds out, her neck is toast.
- The stabby half-demon terrorizing her court needs to go. Definitely. Probably. Because she doesn’t need her protection. Or her tea. Or ensuring she’s fed. Or drawing baths after murder attempts… right?
What’s better than one stabby MFC? Two stabby MFCs.
Let’s be clear: I will never not obsess over any story that:
A. Is written by Lisette Marshall.
B. Takes place in the Fae Isles.
One of my favorite things about Lisette as an author is her uncanny ability to twist familiar tropes into something entirely new. Her characters’ highs, lows, and internal struggles hit so hard, you’re basically contractually obligated to feel everything alongside them.
Them: “A romance with a female lead incapable of feeling love? That’s impossible.”
Lisette: “Hold my pen.”
I’ve been curious about Thysandra since the very first Fae Isles book. Her devotion to The Mother was obvious, but there was always something else brewing beneath the surface. Her story does not disappoint.
Thysandra’s journey—from The Mother’s loyal servant to a true champion of humanity—is an absolute ride. It’s a masterclass in balancing action, intrigue, emotional depth, and just the right amount of steam. The constant betrayal, the scheming, the never-ending suspicion? Exhausting. (Relatable.) By the end, I felt like I needed a nap and some therapy—and I wasn’t even the one living her life.
Basically, Lisette, expect my therapist’s invoice.
And now, I just have one question: Are we getting Silas and Inga’s story? 👀 Because I would not hate that.
