Dear S.L. Prater,
I just need you to know that as I’m writing this—one hour into a five-hour flight—I am full-on sobbing. The middle seat is blissfully empty, otherwise, my row mate would be uncomfortable instead of concerned. And then I’d: A) Feel guilty for making someone uncomfortable, and B) Be forced to explain that no, I’m not okay, because I’m emotionally wrecked by a love story between a vampire and a witch.
💜“In every world I’ve visited, when our souls manage to find each other, yes, there is love.”💜
That said, Coven of Consequence (CoC) was everything I hoped for and so much more.
It’s a delicious blend of detective work, thrills, mystery, love, and just the right sprinkle of spice. Rorick and Quiet deliver top-tier banter, as always, with their signature undercurrent of affection that’s so them.
Coven of Ill Repute left me craving more of their dynamic, and CoC absolutely delivered. I am obsessed with Rorick’s devotion to Quiet (yes, they’re both equally devoted, but let’s be real—he’s the affectionate one, and his sweet, touchy-feely nature playing off Quiet’s cool demeanor is my personal brand of catnip). Every time he calls her “Love,” my heart—and other places—melts.
“’Nothing I wouldn’t do’ I panted. She clung to me, nails pricking gently down my back. ‘We’ll stay together,’ she breathed. The hope in her voice was intoxicating. ‘You promise? Where I go, you go, until we see this through?’ ‘I promise you, Rorick. I’m not going anywhere you aren’t.’”
Overall, this book was just surprise after surprise. The concept of constants and consequences was fresh, and the story kept me guessing at every turn. It was nothing like what I expected, but in the best possible way.
I’m devastated it’s over and that there’s no more Rorick/Quiet banter in my future (as my poor aisle mate can, unfortunately, attest to) 😅
