I wouldn’t say this book is awful, but I’m not exactly rushing to recommend it either.

This book is a bit of a contradiction—or maybe a dichotomy? On one hand, the characters felt one-dimensional, the story could’ve used some serious pinning down, and the pacing was all over the place. On the other hand, I still couldn’t NOT finish it.

Did I binge-read it? No. But could I have DNF’d it altogether? Also no.

The concept of the story is interesting, and with some tighter development and a good trim of the unnecessary fluff, it could easily be a solid 4-star read. There was just too much happening without enough background or explanation to make it all make sense. And don’t even get me started on the “rage” concept—especially since the word “rage” is used over 150 times in the book. That should never be a thing.

I get that Mika has had a rough life—she’s been used and abused, is distrustful of everyone, and she’s understandably angry at the world. But the whole “rage” concept? It just didn’t work for me. Sure, I get her raging during fights or when she’s feeling negative emotions, but raging while being shown affection or getting it on with Riley? I’m sure the author was going for something, but I needed more background and explanation to understand what that something was.

Honestly, my favorite parts of the book were Riley and Eryn. Could they have been more well-rounded as characters? Sure. But they’re both absolute cinnamon rolls who must be protected at all costs. 😅
